Clean or Glass clean ? Neil washes a stella chalice with Ecover and a doofer from Poundland!

WIth the subject of "Flat kegs" raising its ugly head again, I bought a bottle of Ecover bio washing up liquid and as fancy sourer from Poundland! A not so bubbly glass of Shelby IPA from the perfectdraft machine was drank in the name of research and a fresh one poured. The difference was actually amazing. Maybe Shelby wasn't the best example to use but it's what was in my machine and what thou...

Just bought one of these and when I set it all up do I need to wait till next day to pour a pint as it’s foam that’s coming out my keg
You'll need to wait until the keg is less than 6 degrees or it's very bubbly. Pull the handle straight down fully too as that makes a difference
Thanks for the lesson there my friend I could do with one of them
My PD was a second hand one and I approximate that its now 5 years old, its taking a very long time to cool a pre chilled keg from the local store down to 3C, going to give this a go to see if it helps. I Find Iv got to get a pint poured out before it wants to chill any further than 10C. Does always get down to 3C eventually though
Give it a bash, you may find some screws have threadlock on them. Two options re that 1) force it / cut screw, there's only usually one like this. 2) heat the screw with a soldering iron which melts the thread lock.
@@nmealey Thanks for the heads up :) Im sure i'l manage it no problem. Hoping it makes some kind of difference!
Let me know how you get on.
How long do the kegs last if stored before putting in the machine?
Well there's a best before date which is up to 6 months. However it lasts way longer. I've had Oktoberfest beers a year old and they're still good. Ideally you'd have a couple in reserve and one in the machine I suppose.
@@nmealey thanks dude you got same system what kegs do you get?
You need to get the 6 lite ones from perfectdraft.co.uk
@@nmealeyyeah I know that was asking what beers you get personally that last 6 months untapped
Ah, sorry mate. They come with a best before date, I've had the oktoberfest after 6 months, Corona, Stella, infact probably most at some point over it's date.
Iv picked one of these up from a boot sale .... the chap said it woks but the keg was empty ..... it lights up but just watched the the video and noticed that when you pulled the tap down it made a noise, does it still do that when the keg is empty ? As there's no noise coming from mine .... any information would be appreciated .....
The noise is just it pressurising. Get a keg and give it a try. Also look at my video on what's inside a keg and how it works. You'll understand the noise then.
Thank you for sharing this video with the PD-community.
Thanks very much ..I was always wondering how it worked.
No problem 👍
I'm just about to buy one!
Excellent. You'll enjoy it
Yes, you can. Just keeps note of how many days remaining, try suggest 30 days from first use but I've had some way beyond that. Also it's handy to keep it in the fridge but there's no actual need
I'm thinking about buying one of these. Can you swap kegs while they are not empty or do you have to finish a keg before putting another on?
Put a Noctua fan in it
Couldn’t get screws to budge - they appear to be glued in as they crumbled l. Don’t think it’s designed to be manually cleaned. Hope I haven’t damaged my machine
Some are secured with loctite. If you heat the screw up with a soldering iron or fair dryer then it may make it easier.
@@nmealey thanks - looking at the screw heads, I think I have ruined them now. Might just try to blow the dust out with a can of air or similar.
This liquid works fantastic. Thanks mate👊
It's amazing the difference it makes. People don't believe their clean glasses aren't clean and stop the bubbles. 🍻🍻
@nmealey Absolutely. I drink mainly Guinness and stouts, and the difference with this liquid is night and day. No blemishes in the glass, fantastic head on the pour, and even better the lacing on the glass. This ecover is fantastic stuff!
lol wow thats different than heinakein .... lol why ot just buy a bag o beer ha ha
It's the same principle as the blade or the sub. Their beer is in a bag too, just theirs has a plastic keg.
@@nmealey in the USA they have Heineken mini kegs made of steel and they use a real CO2 system with charcoal. No bag in those it's amaazing
@@drewsquickfix that's a hit more complex than putting a new bag in and filling it up!
How many pints can u get out that keg ????
It's 6 litres so just over 10 pints
Hi I got one of these today followed your video but my machine buzzes for about 5 seconds every 2-3 minutes can you tell me what I’ve done wrong
I think we sorted it out on Facebook?
stella artois is incredible out of a cold glass
Perfect review thanks mate
Perfect mate 👌🏼 🍻
Glad to have helped matey
It did cheers.
Thanks mate, glad it was some use.
Well done mate made it a gem to load and work thank's
Can the barrel be cooled in the freezer?
Yes. About 2hrs
@@nmealey and how many hours in the fridge?
@@jramirezdev about 2hrs then check it. Some say 2 hrs per 1 degree but I'd say that's a bit long if you you're needing to stop it 5 Deg.
@@nmealey thanks, I just bought it and have many questions, for example If I open a keg for a meeting and don't finish it can I unplug it and put it back in the fridge?
I use scourers, salt and baking soda to get my glassware 'beer clean'. Works a treat once you work out the best method, now I get mad at pubs that serve me a pint in a dirty glass because I know that I can get it cleaner at home by hand! Some glassware does eventually get worn out and impossible to get clean again after a lot of use though, you just have to replace them.
It is relatively easy to pull out the bag together with the plastic top. Then you can reuse the keg for wine-making, etc.
You tried?
@@durschfalltv7505 yes, definitely
Hi I got my machine today, when trying to attach the tap to the keg it keeps spraying beer everywhere. I then tried pressing down on the cross on the keg this took some pressure out but it just seemed as though beer was leaking. Any tips?
Put the disposable grey tube in. Get the tap located by turning it slightly each way, then just push down firmly on each side of the tap. It's easier done with the keg on the floor. You can press the cross button even more if you like it doesn't effect the beer
Cheers for the video ? Is there anything on keg to indocate its cold enough to pour ?
Just the temp. Gauge. If it's 6 or above its generally too warm especially lager which will be really frothy if too warm
I've just bought one of these and the noise of the oressure pump doesn't kick in until I'm nearly a quarter full of the pint glass. Is this normal? Thanks
Yeah, that's fine. The beer is in a bag. The air squeezes the back. It just puts more air in as required. The air doesn't touch the beer itself.
Necked it before the head overflowed lol
Problem is it's all inbev drinks. You know the one's normal people should avoid.
That's because inbev created the machine
done, let’s hope it works 😊
My perfect draft it's making noise, it's is normal?😢
What noises. Feel free to message me a video.
Mate, you're a legend cheers 🍻
Thanks for your comments. Enjoy your perfect draft experience.
Hi Neil Thanks fot that video, is it possible you can do one where you have to renew the 3 capacitors behind the panel top left at rear.. ive heard that tese are a common item that cause s bad readings and Temp not going down to 3.. Cheers Brian
Hey, thanks for your comment. That is way beyond my skillset unfortunately. I've never actually seen that issue before. Doesn't mean it's not a thing though. I'm just a keen pd enthusiast, not an technician unfortunately.
@Neil Mealey I've just cleaned mine couldbeliev how bad it was.ive put a new keg from fridge on and temp is sitting at 19% will check in the morning to see if it's come down, if not I think I will change the 3 capacitors located behind the top left hand panel..there is a video on here somewhere and it looks straightforward (fingers crossed) I believe the capacitors couldn't cooe with the dirt that was found...
Hopefully it'll be down to 3. Let me know 😀
@@nmealey ok
It didn't go down, sent it back to philips for repair.
Just my type of video
😂🤣😂🤣. In my defence I was told the grinder was fully charged... It wasn't, but you just gotta go with it 😁
Great video worked well for me back to 3 degrees again. Many thanks mate
Perfect, glad it has helped. Should reduce the electricity used a bit too.
I’d rather it filled the keg back up but that’s wishful thinking on my part lol
@@bells1969 don't we all 🤣😂🤣
Totally pointless wouldn't have made any difference whatsoever
I think you must be the exception. If your machine is still struggling to cool down then look at where it is. Plenty of space around it? Getting hot air from another appliance or machine.
Yes, pointless on this machine as it's clean, he's just showing you how to. Try running a machine for a year and then doing this- it'll be full of dust.
I wish this wasn't an AB product so I could still drink it.
Why can't you drink AB?
@@nmealey because as Americans we have a right to speak up against things we don't like. Their parent company decided it was a great idea to insult the vast majority of their customer base. This caused a national boycott of enbev who owns Stella. Perhaps they should branch out on their own again. One of the oldest beers on the planet should not involve themselves with anything other than making good beer.
@@sethcarroll-ik4wm ah. Ok.
@@sethcarroll-ik4wm Typical right wing snowflake. I love Stella. And if it pisses off the mouth breathers, so much the better 😂
Same it ls my favorite....
worked a treat, thanks 👍
Excellent. 🍻🍻
How long for optimal temp mate ? Just stuck mine in but gagging for a pint 😅
Depends on the ambient temperature in the room and if the machine or keg has been pre cooled. About 1 Deg an hour maybe more
Hi Neil, do you think it would be okay plugging the PD machine into an extension lead for the garden ? for the summer months of course
I don't see why not. As long as it's a decent quality lead, just make sure it's not wound or wrapped up. The power draw isn't massive.
Is it worth getting a refurbed onw
If you're saving a decent bit of money and it comes with a warranty, I'd say so.
Please can I have the measures file, for create in rome? Thanks very much!
Does guinness work in this anybody know ?
No, you need the machine specific kegs
There is nothing come out of my machine cmon
Any ideas what's wrong when the drink freezes 🥶 that's my issue! Is there a temp sensor?
Check there's not a build up of ice on the chiller plate. This could decrease the temp while the machine still thinks it's warmer so chills further.
Cheers pal. Very good video. I have borrowed my mates for the football tonight. Very well explained. We are ready to rock & roll🍻
Glad to hear it. I'm sure you'll be looking to buy one after tonight.
@@nmealey yes. Been looking. There's some canny deals on👍
Philips, not Phillips.
I'd rather just go to the bar
I have a Krupps SUB and fancy one of these too. Looking at the new Pro, but they seem to use 3 times as much electricity and at current rates cost £10 to run for the 30 days the beer is fresh. So maybe get one of these older ones instead to keep costs down.
The old ones do the same job. 👍
Great video I got same machine as you going buy a skin for my one soon
